Target Audience Marketing Research- Office Christmas Party

Office Christmas Party is similar to our film in regards to the holiday theme and its comedic genre. Although this movie appears to be more vulgar in concept compared to our film, Office Christmas Party provides effective marketing techniques to attract a similar audience.

-Posters:
Office Christmas Party utilizes a variety of posters to attract viewers. They help portray the chaotic, ridiculous, and humorous aspects of hosting an over-the-top Christmas party in an office.
Character posters showed off different members of the cast, with their name highlighted in green. Many of them include well-known actors.
Another set of posters featured illustrations of the bad office behavior with the caption "Party like your job depends on it."
-Trailers:
Office Christmas Party features a few trailers depicting an outrageous story of making poor decisions to its targeted viewers.

The second trailer provides more background of the characters, showing how the situation unfolds as the party goes underway and quickly gets out of hand. 
The third trailer features more of the other coworkers. There's less focus on the magnitude of the madness that's ensuing once the party turns into ultimate chaos.


When arriving at the official website for the film, the second trailer is shown. There is also a prompt to “Plan Your Party.”, which encourages the viewer to create a group event for their coworkers to see the movie. It helps provide, Facebook cover photos, flyers to put up in the office and information on arranging to buy a group of tickets. 
 The official website also contains an “Indoor Sleigh Ride” online game that plays off one of the key scenes from the trailer. 
 Links are also given to the movie’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages for more social media publicity as well as a section dedicated to the movie’s promotional “Partners.” 


TV spots were also created including brief clips from the movie.  


In terms of promotional partners, the movie had a variety of groups to work with: 
  • The Office Christmas Party worked with TipsyElves to create several  movie-themed ugly sweaters and offered a free movie ticket with each purchase. 
  • In Blowfish for Hangovers, the hangover cure offered two free tickets for purchasing each set of 50 tablets. It also offered the chance to win a private screening for the viewer and 49 of their coworkers. 
  • The Office Christmas Party collaborated with Blaze Pizza to win free pizza when a customer shared their outrageous office Christmas party story on social media. 
  • Elite created a series of movie-themed digital invitations to send to a customer's guests to get them to see Office Christmas Party with them. 
  • Blo Dry Bar also offered a chance to win a hometown screening of the movie by having customers show off their best hair flip along with coworkers. 
The publicity for the movie began to gain traction with an interview in EW’s Fall Movie Preview where the cast discussed the story, the characters, and how they worked with one other and more as they tried to portray the film raunchy movie that still had a lot of emotion and heart and was relatable to the audience. 


Office Christmas Party also received more publicity when it scored a cover story in EW where the actors and filmmakers talked about the chaos of producing the movie, and trying to make a Christmas story unique and not within traditional standards.

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?   The genre of the film is presented to be a comedy that also has some elements of a drama.  Like a comedy, the film mainly tries to emphasize humor and amuse the audience. To get this reaction, comedies tend to exaggerate certain characteristics of the action, language, characters, setting, or plot to provide the humorous effect. In a similar way, we follow conventions of a comedy in which our product centers around Santa losing his job. In situational comedies such as Groundhog Day and Happy Gilmore, the humor is centered around the narrative, by which the main-character is found in unfamiliar circumstances.
