In the film Groundhog Day, not too much is told within the first few minutes, although it establishes the main character and his setting, in particular working his job as a news anchor and weatherman before Groundhog Day. However, it does establish any conflict. Some camera shots include the close up of the main protagonist's hand as he works as a weatherman, and a zoom-out to mid shot, showing the actor under a blue screen. The opening also cuts between him on screen as weatherman, to him behind the blue screen, indicating how he completes his job as he acts in front of the screen to create the product on television. The camera also rotates to him moving towards anchor seat, and provides a two-shot with him and a co-anchor. In the change in scene, there is an aerial shot of the city, a long shot of the car, and another aerial shot, possibly with a track, of the weatherman's car driving through the suburbs. The music is comical and upbeat. There is an also a sound bridge to the actor talking as the weatherman in the very start of the movie. Dialogue includes, "look out, here comes trouble," as he blows along with the movement of the cold front. With a change in scene, the music is more happy and relaxed. The costumes and clothing are accurate and realistic. The first scene is possibly being filmed in a studio, as the first scene is inside portraying a newsroom, However, the scenes in the city are on location. There are also accurate props, including a camera, blue screen, television, desk, and some papers. Job titles include the actors, casting, music, costume designer, editor, production designer, director of photography, executive producer, writer, producer, and director. The budget of the comedy fantasy was $14.6 million, and its box office was $70.9 million. The film received 17 nominations and 7 awards, including an MTV Movie Award and a Saturn Award.
Overall, I think that the feedback we received was fairly helpful. We were happy to hear that most of our peers found our film opening to be humorous. One noted that, in particular, the Easter Bunny entering the scene was very funny. Many comments included positive feedback on the camera work, where the dramatic use of zooms, reverse zooms, and zoom-ins created a more comedic effect on the product. They liked the concept of our film and found it to be unique. Others found the dialogue to have a good flow and the transitions to be smooth. Some comments included a good use of mise-en-scene, such as the props and costumes. Although we had a lot of positive feedback, we also had some important negative feedback as well. Most, if not all of our peers mentioned the low sound quality of the film. They stated that some parts of the opening were quiet, however, when it was presented to the class, the volume was already on the low end of the scale. This quiet audio may have lead others to note t...
